Mission Summary

Blue Ghost Mission 2 is Firefly Aerospace’s planned follow-up to its successful first lunar landing, this time aiming for the far side of the Moon. Targeted for late 2026, it pairs the Blue Ghost lander with a new orbital vehicle called Elytra Dark, stacked together for the journey out.

After arriving at the Moon, Elytra will release the Blue Ghost lander and the European Space Agency’s Lunar Pathfinder satellite into orbit, then act as a communications relay while the lander works on the far side, a region that cannot reach Earth directly. Blue Ghost is designed to operate on the surface for at least ten days.

Elytra is built to keep flying for years after the landing, providing relay and imaging services from lunar orbit. Far taller than the company’s first lander, Blue Ghost Mission 2 reflects the growing scale and ambition of commercial lunar flights.
